Welcome to May, everyone. WMSE's Brent Gohde and I have a great Local Music Podcast for you this week.

With a new month comes a new band. Fable and the World Flat features members from Meteah Strike and Those Royals and the newly formed band has a few great songs to share with us when it plays at the Cactus Club on Saturday, May 5 with the Box Social and Kid, You'll Move Mountains.

Lunaversol9 -- of Def Harmonic fame -- is playing at Stonefly Brewing Co. on Sunday, May 6, opening for Anticon Records' Sole. Her solo album "Afterbirth" came out earlier this year, but Brent and I play the amazing "House of Stars," which appeared on a local compilation last year.

Jonathan Burks and his guitar are making an appearance at Linneman's Riverwest Inn on Saturday, May 5 with Wooden Robot. We play a track from '05 called "I Like You."

This week's podcast wraps up with a lovely cover of "Manic Monday," performed by Spransy & Kolb live on WMSE. Check out the duo live at the Bremen Café on Saturday, May 5.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
