No one will be shushing in the library on Thursday, Oct. 26, as Centennial Hall – found inside the Milwaukee Public Library's central branch – will host a special free concert that night showcasing rising star Victoria Canal.

Taking the stage at 7 p.m., Canal is a singer-songwriter and disability advocate, working in recent years with the likes of Michael Franti and Hozier – who she just opened for during his 2023 summer tour over in Europe and the United Kingdom. Canal was also one of the favorite selections for NPR's Tiny Desk Contest in 2020 and played the lead in an episode of the second season of Apple TV+'s anthology series "Little America."

The special free show comes in collaboration with Independence First, a local non-profit providing resources to empower people with disabilities to live independently. For more information about the organization and its work, visit their website

Though the concert is free, tickets are required – so to register and reserve your spot at Thursday night's show, click here. Doors open at 6 p.m.; more information about parking around the Downtown library branch and Centennial Hall can be found here

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
