The Port of Milwaukee, The Milwaukee RiverWalk District and Culligan have joined forces to implement an advertising program on Milwaukee's River Skimmer, the boat that cleans the river.

Sure, it’s far from the advertising innovation that’s happening online these days, but for a water company whose message is “Better Water. Pure & Simple" what better visibility than on a river and in front of those who enjoy it and want to see it continue to get better.

"Water is the most valuable resource we have and we all must do our part to keep our waters clean and safe.  At Culligan we not only believe in the importance of clean water, but we live for it.  We are pleased to be a part of The RiverWalk District's clean up efforts and proudly support the river skimmer," said Chris Steddick, General Manager, Culligan.

Brokered by upstart agency Freight Train, this new program generates revenue during a time when public/private partnerships are crucial to our community.

According to Lisa Liljegren at Freight Train, “We consider ourselves to be experiential marketers instead of advertisers and this opportunity demonstrates our philosophy.”

The advertising will launch on Tuesday, July 11.  As for the investment, Lilegren says, “The investment on everyone's part is relatively small this year so that we can develop measurables and make this into a sustainable, annual revenue generator for the RiverWalk District.   Culligan is paying rates comparable to 30 sheet billboards, bus boards and taxi tops.”

"MRD appreciates this opportunity to raise some money that can be used to help defray skimmer operating expenses.  The City and MMSD have traditionally been the main funding sources for the skimmer.  This program will add some private funds into the mix.  It's simply an extension of the public/private partnership that originally built the RiverWalk," said The Milwaukee River Walk Districts, Marsha Sehler.

Next week, OMC will ride aboard the skimmer and report on clean up efforts and talk with the boat’s captain Scott Cassavant.
