Justin Brill, a Broadway actor who performed in the Milwaukee Repertory Theater's production of "Harvey," facilitated a post-show workshop in Mr. Harvill's English language Arts class at Community High School.

The workshop is the result of a school subscription with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, which allows students to see four productions at the Milwaukee Rep. They also participate in eight pre-show and post-show workshops throughout the year, where actors from the performances come into the classroom to facilitate learning activities.

"As this class is my reading intervention hour, I wanted to ignite interest in reading by engaging students in performance arts," says Community High School teacher Will Harvill.

The workshops align with curriculum in Mr. Harvill's reading intervention hour by helping students become proficient in the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. Students learn how to provide objective summaries of texts, analyze how complex characters develop over the course of a text and analyze how an author draws on and transforms source material in a specific work.
