For the fifth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2011."

A lactose intolerant Wisconsinite should be an oxymoron. And yet, it's a reality for me. All summer long, I took my kids to Leon's and Kopp's and watched them eat (and wear) decadent custards chock full of salty nuts or cookie dough nuggets while I unenthusiastically slurped on my slushie. It totally blew.

And pizza is an indulgence of the past, too. I either scrape off the cheese, which leaves a rather unappealing pile of oily queso on my plate, or I try to order part of the family pizza without cheese. But here's a news flash: pizza without cheese sucks. So most of the time, I order spaghetti or salads in pizza joints which is like sitting in the front row at Miller Park to follow the game on your iPhone. (Or something like that.)

I'm really not one to complain and do nothing about it, and misery really does love company, so I write this blog to open the floor to other lactose intolerant Wisconsinites who wanna join in the complaining and / or share with me if they find their various elixirs and medications working for them.

I would like to return to my gluttonous cheese-and-custard Wisconsin existence as soon as possible.
