Tazinos Pizza & Salad Bistro is coming to this Downtown building.

Tazinos is coming Downtown to CityCenter at 735

Tazinos Pizza & Salad Bistro will open on the Milwaukee River at CityCenter at 735 at 735 N. Water St. The Riverwalk location will be the fourth Tazinos in the greater Milwaukee area and the first in City of Milwaukee.

"Tanzinos is finally coming to Downtown Milwaukee," said company president and CEO Jim Purcell. "There has been significant interest in introducing our brand to the Downtown community, and we are extremely pleased to be bringing it to such a prominent and historic venue as the CityCenter building," Purcell added in a news release.

The restaurant will occupy 4,000 square feet at street level with indoor and outdoor seating.

In addition, Tanzilos will open in Germantown in "late 2012."

The restaurant opened its first location in Oak Creek in 2007, and also has locations in Menomonee Falls and Pleasant Prairie. The company plans additional expansion announcements in the coming weeks.

For a variety of reasons, I`ve been thinking about Front Street, which now seems so ironically named, fronting as it does onto nothing and serving as the ultimate definition of a Milwaukee "backstreet." In my mind, I see something much different that can be seen on the block today.

The story of Pietro`s starts with Filippo Tarantino who worked as a baker in Sicily and moved to the United States in 1959. He found his way to Milwaukee and worked for Grebe`s Bakery until 1973 when he accumulated enough savings to open Pietro`s Pizza, named after one of his sons.

Filippo`s Italian Restaurant, 6915 W. Lincoln Ave., is one of the many pizzerias on Lincoln Avenue that I`ve alluded to in past blogs. Several people have been asking when I was going to visit Filippo`s, so I stopped in on a slow night to try the sausage, mushroom and onion on thin crust and a sausage and pepperoni on the regular hand-tossed pizza.

The Bonanza Shopping Center is not even a glimmer of what it once was, but Gianelli`s Pizza and Chicken Man are doing their best to keep some life in the building, and I think they`re doing a good job. They blew me away with the texture and sweetness of their handmade sauce - and did I mention there were strips of bacon on my pizza?
