Fidelio
New Artistic Director, Viswa Subbaraman will open his very first production at Skylight with a unique staging of the tale of Fidelio by Ludwig Von Beethoven. A timeless story that deals with love, freedom, the purity of purpose and of course mistaken identity: Skylight turns this work on its head by setting it as classic Bollywood film! We will combine Beethoven’s dramatic score with a moving chorus of colorfully dressed Indian dancers on a set design by the modern artist Raghava KK. The Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek will also collaborate with us as we transcend culture, society, and ethnicity, ultimately showing we all share similar values. This is certain to be a historian not-to-be-missed season opener.
Les Miserables
Centerpiece to our season, Les Misérables is the show that inspired Skylight to focus on freedom and revolution as a conversation through the entire year. Set in 19th century France, in the midst of revolution, it follows Jean Valjean on his quest for redemption after being jailed for stealing a loaf of bread, inspector Javert who relentlessly pursues parole violator Valjean, and an abundance of other compelling and entertaining characters. Skylight looks forward to producing this legendary, Tony Award-winning musical in the intimate Cabot Theatre. This epic tale of passion and sacrifice will be a phenomenal way to share live theatre with the family during this holiday season.
