This morning, Summerfest announced that Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will headline not just one but two nights at the Marcus Amphitheater for next year's Summerfest 50. The legendary rock 'n' roll band will take the stage – along with special guest, and Marcus Amp co-headliner last year, Chris Stapleton – on Wednesday, July 5 and Thursday, July 6.

Petty's duo of gigs are a part of the band's 40th anniversary tour, which was announced last night on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and this morning on SiriusXM's "Tom Petty Radio."

No stranger to Summerfest, Petty last performed at the Big Gig in 2013, and back in 2010, he similarly performed two back-to-back Marcus Amphitheater shows. He joins Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pink as headliners for next summer's much-ballyhooed Summerfest 50.

Tickets for both shows – as always, complete with Summerfest admission – will go on sale beginning on Friday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Summerfest box office, Ticketmaster ticket centers and Walmart stores, as well as online at Ticketmaster.com and over the phone either through the Summerfest box office (414-273-2600), through a live Ticketmaster agent (1-800-745-3000) or through Ticketmaster's automated ticket line (1-866-448-7849).

There will also be a special presale for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Highway Companions Club members that will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m.

Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for more Summerfest 50 announcements as they come.
