People's Books is moving

People's Books Cooperative started moving today from its East Side location to Riverwest and will re-open in July. The independent bookstore cooperative is leaving it's current location, 2122 E. Locust St., and moving to 804 E. Center St. in the former Tool Shed space.

People's needs volunteers to move tomorrow, too. There are two shifts: 7 a.m. to noon or noon to 5 p.m. Anyone who volunteers receives a free lunch and a 15 percent discount on books purchased during the month of July. Call (414) 962-0575 for more information.

Riverwest Public House, 815 E. Locust St., will host a "re-birthday party" for People's Books on Thursday, June 21 at 5 p.m. to celebrate the move and five years as a cooperative. Michael Bootzin will play guitar and Christine Neumann-Ortiz, the executive director of Voces de la Frontera, will speak. River Water Tribe, a gypsy-blues / folk / bluegrass band will perform later in the evening.

The Riverwest Co-op will cater the party (free food!) and a vegan birthday cake from Compassionate Cakes will be served. There will be a raffle, too.
