IL Mito Trattoria Tosa Does It Right!
We recently had the lucky fortune of becoming the weekly winner of Chef Feker & Il Mito’s Family Recipe Revival. We submitted our Bacon Gruyere Mac & Cheese and were delighted to take a trip to Il Mito to taste our recipe in action and sample some other Il Mito dishes.
Il Mito is located on 69th and North Ave in Wauwatosa and is tucked in-between a number of small family businesses which only adds to the family feel of Il Mito. When you are living in Wauwatosa or not I hope you are making it a point to enjoy this beautiful restaurant on a regular basis.
Originally the main reason for visiting Il Mito was to sample the Bacon Gruyere Mac & Cheese, but once we sat down our server, Dan, who I recommend you ask for by name for an excellent dining experience, informed us of specials and our plan to try the Mac & Cheese then order standard menu items was immediately derailed. Il Mito was featuring an 8 oz. Kobe Beef and a Seafood Linguine dish that sounded incredible so those were quickly ordered!
While waiting for the entrees it was a perfect time to try a few slices of the warm bread and olive oil provided to every table, then onto the Bacon Gruyere Mac & Cheese ($6.95) we ordered as appetizers. Il Mito chose excellent Applewood smoked bacon and a blend of cheddar and gruyere cheeses on top of curly pasta and covered with toasted breadcrumbs. The cheeses blended together beautifully and the bacon added a great flavor while working together with the breadcrumbs to give an excellent crunch. Il Mito did an amazing job with this recipe and it tasted better at the hands of the Il Mito Chefs compared to eating it at home. Great work!
Before we knew it our entrees had arrived and our table was packed with the specials of the evening. We were a party of 4 that night and it just so happened that two Seafood Linguine specials and two Kobe Beef specials were ordered. (Yes, Dan our server made them sound that good).
The Seafood Linguine ($20.95) was a large bowl of linguine topped with some of the freshest and perfectly cooked seafood items I have experienced in a long time. This bowl was filled with shrimp, scallops, lobster and asparagus in a delicious lobster sauce all mixed with linguine. I can’t begin to emphasize enough how incredibly well prepared this dish was. With seafood being a very sensitive item to cook the shrimp and lobster turned out so delicate and soft that I will compare all other seafood dishes in the future to this experience. I look forward to this special being offered again soon!
The Kobe Beef ($23.95) fell into the same impressive category as the Seafood Linguine. An 8 oz. portion of Kobe cooked medium-rare and topped with fine fries along with a full serving of asparagus. The steak was incredibly tender and is most accurately described as melting in your mouth with each bite. The softness of each bite is met with the crunch and slight saltiness from the fine fries. It was an excellent pairing and I am happy to say that both servings of this special were completely devoured at the table.
Il Mito met and then exceeded any expectations our group had about dinner that night. Everything from appetizers and specials to the service provided was absolutely excellent. I only wish the specials would have not been so appealing and irresistible. I would then be able to give you a few more menu recommendations, but that just means I will need to make a few trips back and keep you posted. Definitely not a problem!
