Lakefront Festival of Art: June 21-23
Gallery: Lakefront Festival of Arts 2012The Lakefront Festival of Art has surpassed the half-century mark; this year is the 51st for the annual event, which features works for sale by more than 170 artists from around the world. Guests can purchase art from painters, potters, sculptors, glassblowers, photographers and others selected by a jury to display their creations.
Where: Milwaukee Art Museum
Hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Admission: $15 at the gate, which includes all-access admission to the Milwaukee Art Museum and festival grounds and $8 for Milwaukee Art Museum members who present valid membership card. Children 16 and under are free with a paid adult. $20 for a three-day pass with full in-and-out privileges throughout the weekend.
Highlights: Enjoy a glass of vino in the wine garden or Blue Moon Beer Garden. The Lakeside Dining option is good for those who want a sit-down experience. View 50 tons of sand sculpted into an African safari scene at the Kalahari Resort Art Safari Sand Sculpture. Peruse a fashion boutique and bid in a silent auction. Get a taste of Fashion Week on the main stage Saturday as the festival hosts a display of unique fiber art fashions created by LFOA artists. The PNC Children's Experience will also be open throughout the festival to offer hands-on fun for art lovers of all ages. There will also be performances by Danceworks, McMenamin Irish Dance Academy, the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra and more.
OMC tips: Become a member of the Milwaukee Art Museum and save on admission. Keep an eye on the weather. The event goes on rain or shine and it can get hot on the grounds and under the big tents. Good parking options are here.
