The Brewers announced their postseason award winners today as selected by a five-person panel from the Milwaukee Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA).

Left fielder Ryan Braun earned Brewers Most Valuable Player honors for the fourth time (2011-12 and 2015-16) and for the second consecutive season. Braun, who returned to left field following two seasons in right field, batted .305 with 30 HR, 91 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 135 games. He led the team in batting average, total bases (275), slugging percentage (.538) and OPS (.903). Others considered for the award were first baseman Chris Carter and infielder Jonathan Villar.

Junior Guerra was named Brewers Most Valuable Pitcher. Guerra, who became the first player acquisition under General Manager David Stearns when he was claimed off waivers from the White Sox on October 7, 2015, went 9-3 with a 2.81 ERA in 20 starts. The 31-year-old rookie produced 12 quality starts and held opponents to a .213 batting average. The team went 14-6 in his starts. Others considered for the award were Zach Davies, Tyler Thornburg and Carlos Torres.

Infielder Jonathan Villar earned Brewers Top Newcomer accolades. Villar, who was acquired via trade from Houston last November 19, batted .285 with 19 HR, 63 RBI and a Major League-leading 62 stolen bases in 156 games. He made 152 starts at three different infield positions (104g at SS, 40g at 3B, 8g at 2B). Villar joined Tommy Harper (73 in 1969) and Scott Podsednik (70 in 2004) as the only players in franchise history to lead the majors in stolen bases. Others considered for the award were first baseman Chris Carter, pitcher Junior Guerra and pitcher Carlos Torres.

Infielder/outfielder Hernan Perez was named Brewers Unsung Hero. Perez, who was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training, did not join the team until April 28. He batted .272 with 13 HR, 56 RBI and 34 stolen bases in 123 games. He made starts at third base (45g), right field (31g), second base (8g), center field (7g), first base (4g) and shortstop (1g). His 34 stolen bases ranked fourth in the National League. Others considered for the award were outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis and pitcher Carlos Torres.

First baseman Chris Carter captured the Good Guy Award, which is presented to the player who has the most outgoing, friendly presence in the clubhouse and interacts well with the media on a daily basis in a cooperative and pleasant manner. Carter signed with Milwaukee as a free agent last January 6. Others considered for the award were second baseman Scooter Gennett, catcher Martin Maldonado and infielder/outfielder Hernan Perez.
