The teams which had previously played in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) – which included the Milwaukee Wave – and the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) have combined to form the Major Arena Soccer League.

The league currently has 24 teams with the possibility of adding more teams prior to a June 1 deadline established by the league to play in the 2014-15 season.

The new league will feature the top professional indoor teams from the United States and Mexico.

"This new league will give Milwaukee Wave fans and all soccer fans the stability and growth they have been craving for years," said the Wave’s new majority owner, Mike Zimmerman in a statement. "We have very talented, highly skilled players from all around the world, creating extreme competition which will provide nothing but high paced, non-stop entertainment."

The Wave said a new head coach will be announced next week.

"We just returned from the owners meeting in Baltimore and it was exhilarating," said Sue Black, who has retained an ownership interest in the franchise. "Merging these two leagues, it was history in the making while working with leaders from all over the world. These are certainly exciting times for the Milwaukee Wave."

Team schedules and the Major Arena Soccer League playoff format will be released at the beginning of September.

Teams will play 20 regular season games and will divided into multiple divisions based on geography. Three teams from each division will make the playoffs and will be concluded in March 2015.

The inaugural game for the league will take place on Oct. 25 between the Dallas Sidekicks and last year’s MISL champion Missouri Comets.

The new league logo, rules, the list of divisions and other key components will be released in June.

The new league will feature the Wave, along with the Baltimore Blast, Las Vegas Legends, San Diego Sockers, Brownsville Barracudas, Mexico Toros, St. Louis Ambush, Chicago Mustangs, Syracuse Silver Knights, Cincinnati Saints, Missouri Comets, Tacoma Stars, Dallas Sidekicks, Monterrey Flash, Texas Strikers, Detroit Waza Flo, Ontario Fury, Tulsa Revolution, Harrisburg Heat, Rochester Lancers, Turlock Express, Hildago La Fiera, Saltillo Rancho Seco and Wichita B52s.

Registration for Wave Summer Soccer Camp continues with over 30 camps in 25 locations and instructed by the professionals. More information can be found at milwaukeewave.com or by calling (414) 224-9283.
