With a nickname like Brew City, Milwaukee obviously boasts its beer brewing roots by supporting a number of really successful brew pubs and microbreweries where locals and visitors alike can sit and enjoy a locally-made beer. King among them, however, appears to be Lakefront Brewery, 1872 N. Commerce St.
The readers of OnMilwaukee.com had 12 to choose from and voted in Lakefront Brewery as their favorite with flying colors, and we the editors agree.
It's easy to see why.
Lakefront isn't a brew pub in the traditional sense; it's a microbrewery. But, you can still go there on your night out to get a drink with the gang (even without doing the tour.)
The Palm Garden's Friday night fish fry is a now-legendary tradition, complete with live music from local polka band, the Brewhaus Polka Kings, Captain Rusty's fish fry and, of course, the tasty varieties of locally-made beer on tap.
It's a good place to take the kids and the grandparents, but it also works as a fun meeting place for friends and drinking buddies looking to secure a good "base" before hitting the town.
The $5 Lakefront Brewery tour deserves praise here, too. It's known among locals and visitors alike to be a must-do in Milwaukee. Just make sure you've got a designated driver lined up -- the free samples along the way are quite generous.
