In the misunderstood words of the modern poet Justin Randall Timberlake, it's gonna be May. And when the calendar flips, it'll mean the start of summer festivals, higher temperatures, sunnier days ... and probably still a preposterous amoung of allergy-inducing pollen in the air, so I'll be staying inside with the latest batch of movie and TV arrivals on Netflix!

May traditionally means the official start of the summer blockbuster season – and that'll be the case at the Big Red Streaming Monolith as well, where they'll add past big-name blow-em-ups "Hulk," "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," "Starship Troopers" and the first "Equalizer" movie as well as classic comedies like "Liar Liar" and "The Nutty Professor." And while Hollywood forgets how to make new movies for kids to see in theaters, at least Netflix will have old family favorites like "Jumanji" and "Shrek" to help distract the young impending summer vacationers.

Netflix itself will try to strike blockbuster gold with some new originals, including a Jennifer Lopez sci-fi action movie about how A.I. is actually super cool and great as well as a fresh supply of brand new "Bridgerton" episodes. Oh, and also a comedy about the invention of Pop Tarts directed by Jerry Seinfeld, which almost makes as much sense as the sitcom mega-star making an animated bee movie called "Bee Movie" for kids.

But the Big Red Streaming Monolith's biggest swings is not actually a movie or a TV show, but live entertainment. The streamer seems to be doubling down hard next month on live shows, with three – comedy shows from stand-ups John Mulaney and Katt Williams, plus a roast of Tom Brady – set during May, more than ever before. It's no secret that's the next frontier for streaming services now that they've all pretty much hit their subscriber ceilings, they're all trying to keep eyeballs on their apps as long as possible and they're all hoping to sell you ads again – but we'll see if people can be trained into tuning into Netflix at a designated time like ye olde live television days.

And speaking of ye olde live television days, Netflix will also bring on some more throwback TV favorites like "Archer," "Reba" and "Blue Mountain State" in the hopes of digging up a new "Suits." Because somebody at Netflix realized that watching old stuff we like or at least can put on in the background is actually what we subscribed to the service for in the first place all those years ago.

And that's just a few of the options coming to the streaming service soon – so with no further ado, here's the full list of movies and TV shows headed to Netflix in May.

Matt Mueller Culture Editor

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
